The compelling, beautiful narrative of Code Name God is one man's rags-to-riches story and, more profoundly, the vision of a world-class physicist seeking to integrate the findings of science, religion, and spiritual quest. Born in the impoverished Indian province of Bengal, Dr. Mani Bhaumik became a scientist and co-invented the laser technology that made LASIK surgery possible. Upon realizing that fame and fortune could not provide him with the abiding happiness that we all seek, Dr. Bhaumik began the search for a deeper understanding of spirituality. Code Name God chronicles the amazing life of a man who is from both the East and the West and who finally discovers that "happiness is an inside job". This book's prologue is read by Academy Award-winning actor Sir Ben Kingsley. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Stefan Rudnicki, Ben Kingsley. Sundays with Sumiko: Columns from the Sunday Ti...

Sumiko Tan wrote her first personal column as a young reporter in 1994. Over the next 22 years, her fortnightly column in The Sunday Times gathered a faithful readership and made her a household name. With heartfelt honesty, her columns chronicled the ups and downs of singlehood, working life, and, when it finally happened when she was 46, married life.  Sundays with Sumiko is a collection of her most representative columns over the past two decades, exploring family, love, friends, career, dogs, death, and marriage. The audiobook follows Sumiko’s journey from horizon-broadening travels and singlehood woes of the '90s, to musings about romance and aging in the '00s, to an exciting reunion with a junior-college friend that culminated in marriage. In the last section of the audiobook, "Now", Sumiko explores married life, negotiates her new role as a stepmum, and reaffirms the importance of everyday moments of happiness. Her columns also explore the lighter side of things: whether it is learning to swim as an adult, waxing nostalgic about Yaohan supermarket, finally getting Lasik eye surgery, or the woes of having different air-conditioning preferences from her husband. 1. A teacher mentality often pervades every aspect of a teacher's life: early mornings, evenings, weekends, and even nightly dreams. The truth is that teaching professionals often spend more hours with other people's children than do the children's parents and caregivers. They have dealt with parents who are needy, controlling, competitive, demanding, disrespectful, enabling and enabled, hovering, and those who only see their children through rose-colored, Lasik-surgery eyes. There is no doubt that Cheryl and Jan can certainly commiserate with the numerous student and/or parent meetings all teachers have endured throughout the years in which they have had to silently nod or shake their heads in acknowledgment of what was being discussed, as seemingly tangible bubbles of disbelief formed in their brains. And so was born Teachers: Have You Ever? Teachers: Have You Ever? is a compilation of quips and stories, many of them unbelievably believable, that serve as an outlet for fellow teachers, teacher assistants, administrators, administrative assistants - and virtually anyone who works with children in a school setting - to be entertained, to laugh, to commiserate, and to identify and connect with the unique perspective of educators. It will also allow parents, grandparents, and anyone who has ever been in a classroom to gain a unique perspective, mostly through humor, of the challenges teachers experience every day. 1. Subbasal nerve regeneration after corneal surgery
79,00 € *

Corneal damage caused by surgical procedures or trauma, results in the severing of corneal nerves and the subsequent reduction in corneal sensitivity. This in turn might compromise the blink response, induce dry eye symptoms, reduce tear flow and increase tear osmolarity. After surgery, subbasal corneal nerves regenerate which results in an improvement in corneal sensitivity. This book includes studies about subbasal nerve regeneration after corneal surgery (LASIK, LASEK, PTK and keratoplasty) using confocal microscopy, and the relationship between the degree of regeneration and recovery in corneal sensitivity and tear film functions. This book will be especially useful to ophthalmologists and eye disease researchers.

LASIK

LASIK or Lasik is a type of refractive surgery for correcting myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. LASIK is performed by ophthalmologists using a laser. The procedure is preferred by many to photorefractive keratectomy, PRK, (also called ASA, Advanced Surface Ablation) because it provides faster patient recovery, with less pain overall. However, there are medical and lifestyle cases where a PRK/ASA procedure is justified as a better alternative to LASIK.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! A pachymeter is a medical device used to measure the thickness of the eye's cornea. It is used to perform Corneal pachymetry prior to LASIK surgery, for Keratoconus screening, LRI surgery and is useful in screening for patients suspected of developing glaucoma among other uses. Modern devices use ultrasound technology , while earlier models were based on optical principles. The ultrasonic Pachymeters traditionally have been devices that provide the thickness of the human cornea in the form of a number in micrometres that is displayed to the user.

Effect of Trans PRK on Tear Film stability

Trans PRK is a type of refractive surgery that can correct vision problems and eliminate the need for glass or contact lenses. It's fast-even faster than LASIK. Dr. Katzman said it takes less than five minutes per eye. The procedure itself is also easier to tolerate/less painful than LASIK. Results are long-lasting. One Trans PRK treatment may be all you need for your lifetime, depending on how old you are at your first treatment. Some people need a follow-up "enhancement" procedure, but oftentimes it's needed in only one of the eyes. It's an effective option for anyone who isn't an ideal candidate for LASIK surgery or other refractive eye procedures. Unlike LASIK, there's no risk of corneal flap complications (because there is no flap).

Myopia

Myopia, also called nearsightedness or shortsightedness, is a refractive defect of the eye in which collimated light produces image focus in front of the retina when accommodation is relaxed. Those with myopia see nearby objects clearly but distant objects appear blurred. With myopia, the eyeball is too long, or the cornea is too steep, so images are focused in the vitreous inside the eye rather than on the retina at the back of the eye. The opposite defect of myopia is hyperopia or "farsightedness" or "long-sightedness" this is where the cornea is too flat or the eye is too short. Mainstream eye care professionals most commonly correct myopia through the use of corrective lenses, such as glasses or contact lenses. It may also be corrected by refractive surgery, such as LASIK. The corrective lenses have a negative optical power (i.e. are concave) which compensates for the excessive positive diopters of the myopic eye.
